Apologies for the time lapse between full posts here, but a busy summer has put us well behind. But, the play of the Enfield RFC women last night has warranted a more full review.
The Enfield women made the mid-week trek to New Glasgow last night to take on Pictou County RFC in the Women’s B Semi-Finals. After a season that posed its share of challenges, the girls clicked on last night when it really counted and came away with a convincing win to secure a spot in the Championship match this coming Saturday.
Against a confident Pictou County side the girls came out strong early on, trading tries on the Parkdale field and putting together a solid defensive effort to underscore an attacking game that saw tries from Adrienne MacDonald, Becca MacDonnell, Danielle Cable, Amy Fraser, Beckey Head, and Megan Sullivan (2), while Daniela Mayo went good for three converts for a final score of 41-24.
Commenting on the game, Coach Drew Hutt noted: “The match was a full team effort. Their pressure and urgency was relentless. Each player raised their game and came to fight for another crack at a Division II Championship.”
The Championship match will take place this coming Saturday, 26 August, location to be announced.
In other Enfield RFC news we would like to congratulate all the Rugby Nova Scotia Keltics players and coaches on a successful National Festival in Calgary, Alberta with a special mention to Jewlia Burke who was a part of the Silver Medal Winning Keltics U18 team!
Two weeks ago Enfield RFC hosted its annual Rugby Day in Enfield which featured a Rookie Rugby session for Mini Rugby players, an Intro to Contact demonstration with our brand new contact class run by Brandon Horne and Lyn Willis as well as three club games against the Truro Rugby Club women’s (won), Valley Men’s B (lost 24-17) and Pictou County Men’s A (won 19-6).
