One of Enfield RFC Women’s finest has had a huge honour, and predictably failed to share it with anyone!  As humble as she is ferocious, as modest as she is agile, Sara-Lynne Knockwood has been plying her trade in the Enfield RFC backfield using some of the skills she acquired as a world taekwondo champion (yes, World Taekwondo Champion!).  Sara-Lynne has recently been the focus of her own chapter (yes, Her Own Chapter!) in the recently published Aboriginal Sport Heroes: Atlantic Canada written by Jason Peters and published by DreamCatcher Publishing Inc.

The book focuses on the history of sport in Mi’kmaq and Maliseet communities and spotlights Enfield RFC’s own Sara-Lynne in a chapter about her journey to the top of the international taekwondo world.  Enfield RFC would like to congratulate Sara-Lynne on the honour (and also admonish her for allowing us to miss out on a perfect autographed Christmas present!).

The 2011 Annual General Meeting and Awards Banquet and Dance brought another rugby season to a close for Enfield RFC.

The day started out with our AGM where many topics where discussed and a new executive was voted in. Well, not so much in the way of voting as the entire old executive remains without challenge.  The new (old) executive is:

• President - Mark Sweeney
• Vice President Mens - Mark McManus
• Vice President Womens - Adrienne MacDonald
• Finance - Shawn Neily
• Fixtures - Brandon Horne
• Sponsor Representative - Mike Dickie
• Member at Large - Drew Hutt

Later in the day the Annual Awards Banquet and Dance started. After a delicious dinner of roast beef and turkey prepared by Patty and Elizabeth MacNamara, Rod and Pam Dickie, Heather Doyle, Jennifer McManus and Reeta Sweeney, the presentations and awards where given. First, our coach Jack Heald, who turned 70 years old this year and was presented with a framed jersey.

Next the women’s awards where handed out.

• Most Improved Player:  Sarah Young
• Rookie of the Year: Jacy McNutt
• Coaches Award: Ashton Parker
• Most Valuable Player: Daniela Mayo

Next the award for club contributor was presented to Mark McManus. Then the men’s awards were presented:

• Rookie of the year: Joe Westin
• Div II Most Improved Player: Liam Jeffery
• Div II Most Valuable Player: Joel Doyle

• Div I Most Improved Player: George Doon
• Div I Most Valuable Player: Evan Dickie

Afterwards the night was closed with the long anticipated dance. And with that, the 2011 rugby season for Enfield RFC came to a close. We look forward to another successful season in 2012, both on and off the field.

Enfield RFC Mens Div I to play in the McCurdy Cup finals

For the second year in a row Enfield RFC will be playing for the McCurdy Cup.  Their opponent this time around is Halifax RFC. The game is scheduled to be played on Saturday Oct 1st at 3pm at Graves Ockley. If the weather is bad and HRM closes the field the backup field is Rockingstone in Spryfield also at 3pm.  For up-to-date field conditions checkout the Field Conditions page on the HRM website.
